It's A Tuss Up

There's been a sad lack of electronic noodling in these parts. Today's selection comes - allegedly - from one of the best. The reclusive chameleon Aphex Twin aka Richard D. James is rumored to be recording new material as the Tuss, a recent release off of James' own Rephlex Records. In July, The Village Voice ran a exposé with a gusto usually reserved for celebrity embarrassments, but even to the casual listener, the similarities are pretty evident. The lead track off of Rushup Edge is vintage James, a deceptively simple track that coalesces at its midway point with an abstract vocal sample, the perfect blend of the organic and electronic. This definitely isn't for everyone, but I think it's amazing. Unfortunately, the only concrete date Aphex is playing seems to be the All Tomorrows' Parties Festival, but perhaps this is the beginning of his return.
