Running On Bravado: Muse at the Gasometer
Despite all the bombastic excess, Muse is a pretty decent rock band. I seem to have developed an aversion for the whole concept of the traditional guitar-bass-drums setup...that is, I'm generally more attached to a group when a synth or female vocalist is present, but occasionally it's cathartic to simply let loose. While I've found myself going for shoegazer/dream-pop for endless fuzz, occasionally intelligible lyrics are more affecting. Also, if you haven't already discerned, I'm a pretty big fan of melodrama.
This set was recorded at the Gasometer in Vienna on October 23rd, 2003, pre-Revelations.

In other news...
i (heart) music has the extensive results of a blogger poll on 2006's hottest Canadian artists, as well as those that didn't quite make the Top 33. Extensive downloads abound.
Pitchfork has serious CMJ coverage.
One of our dining halls was playing Dani Siciliano at lunchtime. Clearly, I'm at the right school.
Man, those Rangers are frustrating. After dropping a game to the lowly LA Kings, they come back and beat the (Mighty) Ducks in overtime. I guess it could be worse.
Obscure Sound has live New Pornographers, including a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." Wonderful stuff.
