Ü2K6: Asian Riser
Day 10. It's one hell of a lazy Sunday, a day that never really starts, a day that feels like a too-long dream, a languid stupor that weighs you down, ties you down, exhausts you.
It's the perfect day for some citrus juice from Asia. Just enough to wake me up.
16. Asobi Seksu - Citrus
This album just feels surreal. Unlike Magneta Lane, there's nothing to tie this to reality, or even Earth: Citrus sets its sights on the stratosphere and takes off from note one. Dreamy guitars, a paper-thin yet still alluring vocalist, and a drummer with just enough punch to keep things moving hold this expedition through the dreamscape together. Songs like "Thursday" are pure addictive perfect shoegaze heaven. Unfortunately, this year, that's not good enough for more than #16, but don't let this ranking dissuade you: this is a very enjoyable album.

Next: Grandiose, overblown, arrogant, unlistenable...and one of the year's best.

Hey - I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying this U2K6 series - happy holidays!
You're welcome - there's still more to come. At least on my side of things, despite the top albums ending on the 25th, I have a few more fun things planned out to the 31st that should really provide a complete '06 picture. And Roland should be upping his count too, soon.
